2008 Leadership of the Year
Randy Spivey, Emergency Services Director
From a one bed hospital at the beginning of Randy's career to the 407 bed hospital of Brandon Regional Hospital, proves the old adage from small things, great things can happen.
Randy's vision for his first full year at Brandon changed the hospital's vocabulary and patient care forever. Banished from the dictionary are the words "waiting room" and "security desk". They have been replaced by patient centric words of "reception area" and "reception desk," denoting guests being warmly greeted, as they move quickly through the process. This vision expanded to include the rebranding of the department creating a new sense of ownership and camaraderie amongst team members.
Randy's passion allowed staff and the rest of the hospital to do extraordinary things quickly with incredibly positive attitudes and a solid level of effectiveness and made us see beyond ourselves as we became "one house" providing the absolute best and most expedient patient care.
Randy is a great decision maker and this term describes the changes that he made in the Emergency Department. Decisions are made quickly, but not hastily. They are committed, yet not rigid. They're analytical with measurables and charts for everything, even on the weekends, in fact, especially the weekends!
Randy is a team builder coming from the great Volunteer state. There isn't anything that Randy wouldn't ask of his staff that he wouldn't be willing to do himself. He built his team one member at a time by developing an ongoing education program to ensure a quality experience for each and every patient and held team building sessions for staff and physicians that included an open forum for the staff to get the answers they so desperately sought.
Randy has character and we see him as a fun-loving, very likeable, hard-working, community building, family first type of person, who believes in his team, our physicians and the entire hospital staff.
