2008 Frist Volunteer Award Winner
Opal Barfield, Auxiliary Member
Opal started her volunteer service at Brandon Regional Hospital 9 years ago in the Admitting Department making admission packets and stuffing "Snuggles" (the elephant mascot created by the Auxiliary for Pediatrics). She served as Chairperson for Admitting and Snuggles to a more expanded role as the "Packet Maker" now servicing seven departments. Her impeccable reputation for hard work and dedication has involved making patient packets for Admitting, Maternity, Emergency Services, Surgical Services, Cardiac Services, PAT, and the newly acquired "new hire" orientation packets for Human Resources. Service with a smile is the mantra of this volunteer, as completed packets are delivered from department to department on her handy cart.
When not at the hospital, ECHO receives the blessing of Opal's efforts, as they have done for the last 10 years. On Friday mornings, this dynamic volunteer and humanitarian can be seen at 1st United Methodist Church working on the Worship Bulletin, the Newsletter, and whatever else needs to be done.
