Electromagnetic Navigation Brochoscopy: Technology for Prevention, Detection and Treatment of Lung Cancer
Brandon Regional Hospital is the first hospital in Hillsborough County to provide Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy (ENB), a scope that uses GPS-like technology with a catheter-based system to locate, biopsy and prepare to treat a lesion in the lung.
The scope uses the patient’s natural airways to access lesions that were previously hard to reach. Physicians can now easily biopsy the lesions and place markers for planned treatment.
Typically, a patient with a spot on their lung had the options of major surgery to remove a section of the lung, bronchoscopy (which does not reach lesions deep in the lung), needle biopsy, or watchful waiting.
